The Story

Ben and Lisa Morrell October '11
This is the story of Ben and Lisa Morrell. Married July 2005. I, Ben, am the primary blogger but Lisa writes in from time to time.

I was first diagnosed with cancer in May 2007 when we lived in Seattle, I then underwent nine months of intense chemo, surgery and radiation. At that point they looked at me and declared me cancer free. Shortly after that I was offered a job in Colorado Springs and we moved in Colorado.

A year and a half of checkups after the "all clear" the cancer came back and was found in my chest. (Around my trachea and behind my heart.) I consulted with a doctor in Houston but we continued to live and get treatments in Colorado.

Summer of 2010 I was offered a chance to get into a clinical trial, but it was only in Houston. We moved again to Houston to be a part of the trial. In January 2011 I was kicked out of the trial and now am being treated by the specialist I saw before. For the past year (2011) I received high doses of a chemo drug called Ifosfamide. I received eight rounds of it (each lasting a week of outpatient chemo) and am continuing it into this year. At this point the metabolic rate of the tumors has been dwindling for the past six months. No tumor shrinkage, but nothing growing either. We continue to fight, continue to hope. May will be five years of fighting cancer.

I've been blogging this whole time, feel free to check out the archives link on the side. Plenty of reading there if you are interested.
