Semi-hacked into the hospital network

The UW wireless internet here is only for staff and students. However, for some reason even though my college email is no longer valid, my old UW username and password still work, so I've been making use of my web access here as Ben dozes.

He looks a lot better tonight than he did last night-- his skin is not greenish, and he speaks and thinks at a less molasses speed. He is hurting, though. He told me that he hardly got any sleep last night, because every 40 minutes the nurses were pricking his fingers to check his blood sugar.

This information from word of mouth of the mothers, who both spent a lot of time at the hospital today:

The nurses had Ben sit up for half an hour in a chair today, in accordance with the typical hospital "Surgery Recovery Plan". That went okay, but afterwards he was in a LOT of pain (10 on the 1-10 scale).

As I have been for the last 24 hours, I am still elated with how well the surgery went. But Ben is not quite as happy as me, having to deal with discomfort and pain. Which is hard to watch. I guess it's like watching a wife have a baby-- while the event is joyful, the process is still quite excruciating (especially for the woman, or in this case Ben, who is not a woman, but you get my point?).

It's strange to be at a different hospital than the location of all Ben's chemo treatments! Virginia Mason had got so homey. UW is a more polished, less idiosyncratic facility. The coffeestand is open later, but the break room with the microwave in it is key-pad locked! That's going to put a crimp on my eating-leftovers style.

So please pray that the hospital staff will continue to help Ben manage his pain and get his strength back. Please pray for no complications-- so far, so good! And pray that I don't get worn out to the point of sickness or uncontrollable irritability :)

Ben must be so proud of your hacker skills - at least he will be when he has the energy and comfort level to ponder such details. My prayers are with you for sleep and peace - and with Ben for sleep, peace, and rapid healing.

  2. We continue to send out many prayers for you and Ben both, for peace, healing, rest (lots of that), and joy in all circumstances. You both have been an amazing example over the past months. When I read 2 Thess. 1:4, you both came to mind:

"...therefore, we ourselves speak proudly of you among the churches of God for your perseverance and faith in the midst of all your persecutions and afflictions which you endure."
