I was trying to think of all the things I could say in this final blog before my surgery. Honestly I am not sure what I need to say or what God would want me to say. I'll pretty much go with the only thing I know right now: God is in control. He is always in control, sometimes we fool ourselves into thinking that WE are in control. But honestly if you stop and think about it we really can't control much of anything. It just happens to be very, very scary to be reminded of that with something like cancer.

The Prayer time last night was really good. Friends and family from every area of my life were there to support Lisa and I as we are about to embark on this next area of cancer treatment. By the end of the night I was really uplifted and the support we got from everyone was incredible. Thank you every for coming or praying where you are.

I have been thinking about the differences I am going to experience. They are going to put me asleep and I will be much as I have been for the past 25 years. Following surgery I will be in pain, I'll have a big incision, and a lot of energy gone. For me that time will (hopefully) pass before I even know it has gone, but my parents and Lisa's folks and Lisa will be sitting in the waiting room, waiting. I can't say as I envy them the upwards of 8 hours they will be there. (Then again they aren't being cut into... hmmm... maybe I do...)

I would HIGHLY covet your prayers this week. Everything from 10:45 onward today will be a new experience for me. Please also pray for Lisa and the family as they wait.

Thank you all for the mountain of support. Thank you all, I am in God's hands, see you on the other side.

p.s. 'Tween Party on Friday December 28th... details to be fourth coming.

  1. Lord, lay your hand of peace and healing on Ben as you have through this whole process. You are the great healer. Guide the doctor's hands.
We love you, Ben, and will pray that this surgery is a huge success.

I add my 'amen' to Will & Riva's note. We've prayed for you this morning in class - that the Lord will guide the surgeon's hand - that you will be healed and restored. Rolane and I love you and Lisa, and are praying continually for you :-)

Partway through the surgery now. May God sustain you. May He give focus and strength and wisdom to the surgical team. May you wake to rejoicing!
