How do I look?

I appreciate it when people come up to me and tell me, "Oh you look good!" Because it tells me that I don't look bad. I don't look like the image of the stereotypical cancer patient. Or they aren't coming up to me and saying something like, "Wow... you look like you've been worked over by a group of badgers." Needless to say, I'm not a big fan of looking like I've been "taken out back" by badgers.

Despite telling me I look good I guess I just don't know what that means. If I was to say that to someone I would either mean "You don't look dead!" or (a touch more sincerely) "Wow! Your health and wellness has progressed at a better state than I had been lead to believe. I am glad that you aren't one foot shy of the grave!" Which is what I think they mean when they say, "You look good".

To sum up for those of you who haven't seen me since doing any rounds of chemo know that people think I "look good". (My wife has been telling me this for ages, it's nice that other people are starting to agree...)

  1. It's funny I wrote this blog entry this evening. Just after I wrote it Lisa and I went over to her folks place for a quick dinner and her uncle was there. He told me I was looking good. I was hoping my smiling wasn't too rude as I thought about this entry.

  4. I think I told you that you looked younger. I'm just so happy to see you as it means you're well enough to be out and about:-)

I know I was guilty of this, so i will just explain what it meant when i said it.

Ben, you look healthier than I have seen you in a while, and that is encouraging.
